General Information

Old Dominion Studios opened in 2000 in downtown Waynesboro. Opening as a new organization, Old Dominion Performance Arts Studio was founded in 2008 and we plan to make our programs more widely available to more people and bring more resources, guest teachers and performances to our community.

Classes are currently offered year round in our Martial Arts and Dance Divisions for children ages two years through adults. We offer progressive programming in both of our divisions so that students are offered classes in a variety of levels to meet their abilities. In addition to this primary programming, we offer additional programs throughout the year (like Yoga, Zumba, etc) that also enrich our training opportunities and outreach into our community.

Our students have found joy and success in recreational training and fitness, as well as intensive training in preparation of professional careers in dance, martial arts, or other fields. Our dance program and its high quality of technical training has been acknowledged and recognized by staff from ‘The Richmond Ballet,’ ‘Virginia School of the Arts,' and many other professional organizations and instructors from across the country. Our students have received competitive awards (in dance and martial arts), been accepted into nationally known programs with ‘The Richmond Ballet,’ ‘The Washington Ballet,’ ‘The Joffrey Ballet,’ ‘The Nutmeg Conservatory,’ ‘South Carolina Conservatory,’ 'Ballet West,' among several others. One of our alumni students danced professionally as a company member with Missouri Ballet Theatre. Other students have went on to become instructors locally and beyond and several have been accepted and/or have attended colleges and universities including PACE, Marymount Manhattan, Shorter, and VCU among others. We are very proud of the scholarships, recognitions and accomplishments our students have and continue to achieve beyond their training time at ODPAS.

While having a structured environment where learning appropriate and healthy technique is our focus, we prioritize each student being addressed as an individual. Because of our unique approach and teaching system, staff, teachers, students, and their families work toward meeting the needs and development of the whole person. Our positive environment and empowering approach encourages and supports everyone in reaching their highest potential.

In addition to a wide variety of classes, students are also offered opportunities to participate in our large & small scale productions, demonstration teams, competition teams, master classes and our own dance company.

We extend a very warm welcome to you and your family to come by and experience the excitement and energy that everyone is talking about.
